EC president urged to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons

May 31, 2023

Russia started an unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine. In order to level the battlefield gap in range to the invading forces, the allies must provide the AFU with long-range weapons.

This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, speaking at the GLOBSEC forum, RBC-Ukraine reports, referring to the press service of the EC.

As von der Leyen noted, the Russian dictator is trying to destroy the work of peace that we have built together since the end of the Second World War.

"Russia started this unprovoked and unjustified war. Without cause, it invaded Ukraine to wipe the country off the map. And Russia refuses to accept Ukraine as an independent country. But Ukraine's will to fight and to be free has amazed the world," the president of the European Commission added.

The Ukrainian people have been building a path to the European Union for years, and are once again proving their courage and determination, so the world must stand by Ukraine. According to the EC president, an urgent need for the country today is military aid.

"This is why we have just proposed an ammunition production act – we call it ASAP. We want to push our defence industry to ramp up production of badly needed 155-millimetre and 152-millimetre artillery shells. And those who can, should provide long-range artillery and weapons systems that can help Ukraine level the battlefield gap in range to the invading forces," Ursula von der Leyen explained.
