Frederiksen: the issue of transferring F-16s to Ukraine is not closed

May 3, 2023

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said that the allies are continuing discussions on the possibility of transferring F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

She said this at a joint briefing with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and leaders of the Nordic countries in Helsinki, a correspondent of Yevropeiska Pravda reports.

"When we talk about fighter jets, this is an issue that we have been discussing for some time... It is a difficult task, it is a complex issue, but the discussion is still ongoing. From the Danish side, we have not yet closed this (issue - Ed.)," Frederiksen said.

As you know, there are supporters in the Danish parliament who want the country to follow the example of Poland, which provided Kyiv with its fighter jets, and to give Ukraine its F-16s, which are planned to be gradually replaced by F-35s.

The Danish Air Force is currently using F-16 fighters but will begin replacing them with more modern F-35s in the fall of 2023.
