Landsbergis calls for tougher sanctions against Iran

Apr 15, 2024

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that after the attack on Israel, the West should impose new sanctions against Iran.

He said this during a conversation with journalists in Vilnius, LRT reports.

Lithuania, like many other countries around the world, condemned Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel with missiles and drones, warning that this attack could further destabilize the situation in the Middle East.

"We should immediately strengthen sanctions against Iran for its regional destabilizing behavior and support for Russia's aggression against Ukraine," Landsbergis said.

According to him, further escalation in the Middle East will have "catastrophic consequences for both the Middle East region and Ukraine, which is defending itself against Russian aggression".

"However, it is clear that Iran, like Russia, is emboldened by the West's indecision," Landsbergis stressed.
