Ukraine can negotiate peace with Russia, but only through coercive instruments. Economic and diplomatic unity is needed to put pressure on the aggressor country.
This was stated by Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office, in a commentary to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
Podolyak noted that it is in Ukraine's interest to categorically establish relations with Russia on the basis of international law, which clearly regulates “what can and cannot be discussed.”
“When they talk about a peace agreement, I don't really understand a peace agreement with an aggressor who wants to stay on your territory and not be held accountable for crimes against you. This will be your agreement to turn a blind eye to his crimes,” he said.
The advisor to the head of the OP emphasized that one should be very careful with Russia.
“They may pretend to sign an agreement, but it means they are preparing to stab you in the back. This is the concept of the Russian Federation. They can't negotiate with you because they only recognize when you are strong, can resist and fight back. They do not care about anything else, and they will come to try to take something from you,” Podoliak said.-
Therefore, according to him, it is possible to negotiate with Russia, but only through coercive instruments.
“It will not be a peace agreement. It will be forcing Russia to peace on the basis of international law. To do this, we need a military component, economic and diplomatic unity in terms of pressure on Russia,” the advisor to the head of the OP added.-
