Jan 18, 2023

The request to Congress to approve the sale of F-16 fighters of the fourth generation to Turkey has already been handed to US President Joe Biden's administration, the matter had not been considered for over a year amid Ankara's refusal to approve Sweden and Finland's joining NATO.

European Pravda reports that Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said this at a briefing on Tuesday.

He confirmed "the fact that this issue (authorization to sell F-16s) is pending in Congress," and declined to elaborate on the details of the potential deal.

"When it comes to U.S.-Turkey bilateral relations, we have always said that Turkey is an important partner and ally. So we will continue to work closely with the Turkish leadership on how we can improve that relationship and ensure that our mutual defense needs are addressed," the Pentagon spokesman commented.
