Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili is heading to Brussels on a visit that the government had not agreed to for a long time before because of a conflict between them.
This was reported by Novosti Georgia.
Zurabishvili's press service said that the president has already left for Brussels. On May 31, she is scheduled to speak at the European Parliament and hold a series of bilateral meetings and interviews.
The visit takes place against the backdrop of extremely strained relations between Salome Zurabishvili and the ruling party.
In mid-May, Zurabishvili publicly complained that she had been waiting for approval for her trip to Brussels since the end of April, while the government had defined its position on the resumption of air travel with Russia almost immediately.
After that, the ruling party actually admitted that they did not want to agree to her visit, allegedly because it could harm Georgia's chances of becoming an EU candidate.
