Sweden gives Ukraine eight Archer self-propelled guns

Mar 16, 2023

The Swedish government has decided to transfer eight Archer self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine and has started the relevant procedures in parliament.

This was reported by TT news agency.

On Thursday, the Swedish government decided to transfer eight Archer self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine based on an assessment of the country's Armed Forces and sent a request to the parliament as part of an additional draft budget.

Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson noted that Archer's self-propelled artillery systems will allow Ukrainians to defeat Russian artillery systems.

"We can say that the Archer system is more of a sniper rifle than a shotgun. It is the ability to engage enemy artillery systems deep in the rear that makes the Archer unique," explained Jonson.

Ukraine will receive the first SAUs in a few months: first, the equipment will be equipped with computerized fire control, then the Ukrainian military will undergo training, and a logistics hub for maintenance and repair will be established near Ukraine.

It is expected that Ukraine will be able to use six of the eight Archers on the battlefield at the same time, as two must be kept in reserve, for example, to obtain spare parts.
