In Switzerland, signatures were collected for a referendum on the country's neutral status. Such an initiative may prohibit the introduction of any sanctions.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Bloomberg.

The far-right Swiss People's Party and activists initiated the collection of signatures for the referendum. They want to enshrine in the country's constitution a provision on permanent armed neutrality, which prohibits participation in any military alliance.

They also want to block "participation in non-military coercive measures" with the help of such an initiative. This includes, in particular, sanctions.

As Bloomberg writes, despite the fact that the signatures for the referendum have already been collected, the vote itself may not take place soon. The government and parliament have yet to discuss the issue after the signatures are legally certified. The whole process before holding a referendum usually lasts several years.

It is worth noting that this week the Swiss People's Party announced "targeted attempts to undermine neutrality,", referring to the country's implementation of EU sanctions against Russia. The party complained that this undermined the international opinion of Switzerland as a neutral country.

It is not neutrality that worries Switzerland, but exclusively financial interests...
