According to a U.S. official, the total number of Russian casualties in the war with Ukraine exceeds 200,000
Russia has lost more than 60,000 troops in its attempts to capture the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. This assessment was made by an unnamed Western official in a commentary to Sky News.
"We believe that the capture of Bakhmut probably cost Russia at least 60,000 casualties in the Bakhmut-Popasna sector during the year-long battle," the official said.
It is clarified that 60 thousand is a conservative estimate of Russian losses in this section of the front, which includes both wounded and dead. At least a third of them, according to the official, are dead.
The source called Bakhmut a strategically unimportant city and added that, according to the West, Ukrainian units have withdrawn from the main built-up part of the city.
"We see that the Wagner group forces are in the process of withdrawing (from Bakhmut - Glavkom), at least as of now. Replacing these power elements will require significant efforts from the already overloaded Russian regular forces," the official explained.-
According to him, the total number of Russian casualties in the war with Ukraine exceeds 200,000.
