In Slovakia, local activists have announced a fundraiser for a Czech initiative to buy shells for Ukraine, despite the position of the incumbent government of Robert Fitzo.

According to the organizers' website, more than 35,000 donors have already made their contributions in the four days since the campaign was launched. On average, Slovaks have donated about 64 euros each, so that at the time of this publication a total of more than 2.15 million euros has already been collected. The organizers assure that the fundraising will be open-ended.

The organizers do not hide the fact that with this collection they seek not only to help Ukraine, but also to testify that the majority of Slovaks do not agree with the change in the general course of the country - the withdrawal of support for Ukraine and rapprochement with Moscow.

"Many people in Slovakia are embarrassed by the [Robert Fitzo] government's orientation toward Russia. That's why people are contributing," fundraiser co-organizer Zuzana Izhakova explained to Reuters.
