UK to start training Ukrainian pilots in the summer

May 15, 2023

The United Kingdom will start training Ukrainian pilots in the summer and is already working with other countries on the possible provision of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

According to Yevropeiska Pravda, this was stated in a statement by the British government on Monday.

Downing Street reminded that in February, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that Britain would develop a new training program for Ukrainian pilots.

This will be done to support Ukraine's efforts to create a new Ukrainian air force equipped with F-16 fighters that meet NATO standards.

"This summer we will start the initial phase of basic training for Ukrainian pilots. We are adapting the program used by British pilots to provide Ukrainians with piloting skills that they can apply to other types of aircraft," the British government said in a statement.

As noted, this training goes hand in hand with the UK's efforts to work with other countries to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets, which Ukraine has chosen as its preferred aircraft.
