CIA Director William Burns said that Congress's approval of the military aid bill will help Ukraine stay on the battlefield until the end of this year and thwart the Kremlin's plans.

Speaking at an event at the George W. Bush Presidential Center, the head of the CIA called on Congress to pass an additional bill on providing military aid to Ukraine.

"With the boost that military aid would give, both practically and psychologically, the Ukrainians are quite capable of holding out until 2024 and shattering Putin's arrogant notion that time is on his side," Burns said.

The head of the CIA noted that if the bill does not pass through Congress, "the picture will be much worse."

"There is a very real risk that the Ukrainians could lose on the battlefield by the end of 2024, or at least put Putin in a position where he can essentially dictate the terms of a political settlement," he continued.

Burns also said that supporting Ukraine now is more than a war with Russia.

"It's also about Xi Jinping in China and his ambitions, our allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region. It's really a question of whether our adversaries understand our reliability and resolve, and whether our allies and partners understand that," the CIA chief said. .
