Zelenskyy: Moldova's course towards the EU is right, Ukraine will help

Jun 1, 2023

Zelenskyy supports Moldova's aspirations to become a member of the European Union and promises to support the neighboring country on this path.

Zelensky said this at a press conference following the summit of the European Political Community in Chisinau on Thursday, according to a Yevropeiska Pravda correspondent.

The head of state emphasized that the security situation in Ukraine directly affects the security of its neighbors, in particular, Moldova.

"I believe that Moldova will go hand in hand with Ukraine. Ukraine, on our part, will do everything to help Moldova. And it is true. Many things that we have done on the way to the EU - I am sure that we will definitely share our achievements with our partners," he said.

Zelenskyy acknowledged that "there are different moods" in Moldova regarding the European future. "But it seems to me that on this path, Maia (Moldovan President Sandu - ed.) has chosen very correct steps, and we will support her as much as we can," he added.

In this regard, the president emphasized the importance of defense coalitions promoted by Kyiv, which should guarantee the security of other states during a full-scale war on the part of Russia.

"When Russia fires missiles, these missiles can fall on our neighbors: Moldova, Belarus, and Poland. And let's be honest - this is happening. And, unfortunately, with more missiles, there will be more of these cases - and God forbid that this leads to casualties and suffering," he added.
