Alain Berset is elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe

Alain Berset, former President of the Swiss Confederation, will be the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for the next 5 years.

In the second round of voting at the summer session of PACE in Strasbourg, 114 votes were cast for him, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Estonian candidate Indrek Saar received 85 votes, and Belgian Didier Reynders received 46.

A total of 246 ballots were processed, one was declared invalid.
