Appointment of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands as NATO Secretary General

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has congratulated Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on the allies' decision to appoint him as the next NATO Secretary General.

The head of state wrote about this on the social network X (Twitter), according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

According to Zelenskyy, when Rutte takes over from Jens Stoltenberg in October, "we look forward to continuing our joint work to ensure the protection of people and freedom throughout our Euro-Atlantic community."

"I know Mark Rutte as a principled and strong leader who has repeatedly demonstrated his determination and vision in recent years," Zelenskyy said.

He also thanked Jens Stoltenberg for his significant contribution to strengthening NATO over the previous ten years of his tenure, as well as for his unwavering support for Ukraine's fight for freedom.
