This was announced on Tuesday during a press briefing by the spokesman for the US Department of Defense, General Patrick Ryder, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Secretary Lloyd Austin received Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant at the Pentagon to discuss efforts to de-escalate tensions along the Israeli-Lebanese border, increase humanitarian aid to Gaza residents, jointly counter-attacks on Israel by Iran and its backed forces, and counter destabilizing activities throughout the Middle East," the US Defense Department spokesman said.

At the same time, Austin reaffirmed the United States' unwavering commitment to Israel's security, as evidenced, in particular, by American support during Iran's attack on April 13, as well as assistance worth more than $14 billion to Israel.

At the same time, Austin emphasized that Lebanese Hezbollah's provocations threaten to draw the Israeli and Lebanese people into a war that neither of them wants.

The Pentagon chief also reaffirmed the priority of releasing hostages held by Hamas, including American citizens. Austin emphasized that principled diplomacy is the only way to prevent the further escalation of tensions in the region.

The Secretary of Defense also urged Secretary Gallant to redouble efforts to protect Palestinian civilians and humanitarian workers in Gaza. The two sides also discussed ways to improve the distribution of humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians.
