EU officially starts accession talks with Moldova

Jun 25, 2024

The first intergovernmental conference on Moldova's accession to the EU has begun in Luxembourg, officially launching the process of negotiations on its membership.

The European Truth reports this.

The conference began with a speech by the Foreign Minister of the Belgian presidency of the EU Council, Aja Labib.

"Your country is part of Europe - European history, heritage and culture. We look forward to deepening the ties that we already have. The enlargement process is a strategic investment in peace, prosperity, and stability," she said.

Labib's statement on the most important reforms that will determine the progress of the talks with Moldova is almost verbatim from the statement made at the conference with Ukraine.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimova will be the main negotiator for Moldova, having been officially delegated this role last week.
