The US is ready to take action if Russia tries to influence the presidential election

The US State Department has promised consequences for Russia if it tries to influence the US presidential election in November 2024.

According to Yevropeiska Pravda, this was stated by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Sonata Coulter at the OSCE headquarters in Vienna, Ukrinform reports.

The State Department representative was asked whether her department was observing Russian attempts to influence the outcome of the presidential election in the United States.

"We have documented their attempts to influence the US presidential election in 2016. We remain vigilant to the Russian threat and will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action moving forward," Coulter said.

According to her, Moscow is also trying to sow confusion and deepen divisions in the societies of Western countries, particularly in Europe.

She called it "good news" that the prediction of an "avalanche-like increase" in the number of votes of parties that are skeptics of the European project after the recent European Parliament elections did not come true.

"According to the election results, we saw that the pro-European center won. So I think that's important to note," Coulter said.
