The conflict between Ukraine and Russia cannot be resolved militarily. Therefore, the Indian government is taking steps to facilitate dialogue between the parties.

This was stated by Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar, RBC-Ukraine reports citing The Hindu.

He emphasized that India is negotiating with both sides, trying to understand how to speed up peace talks.

“This is a kind of reconnaissance that we are conducting. I mean, we don't have a peace plan,” Jaishankar said.

The minister said that the government shares the conversations it has had with one side with the other.

“My sense is that both sides appreciate it,” he said, adding that there are not many countries and leaders who have the willingness or ability to engage with both sides.

These statements came shortly after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
