IAEA does not plan a permanent mission at Kursk NPP

The head of the UN nuclear agency, Rafael Grossi, said that the situation around Russia's Kursk NPP remains serious, but the agency does not plan a permanent mission to the plant.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Grossi's statement in an interview with RIA Novosti, as reported by Reuters.

Ukrainian troops are located in the southern Kursk region, about 40 km from the facility.

“(The situation) is serious because there has been a military incursion, and this incursion has reached a stage where it is not that far from the nuclear power plant,” Grossi said.

Last month, he visited the Kursk plant and said it would be “extremely affected” if attacked because the facility does not have a containment dome.

According to Grossi, the IAEA does not plan to permanently station observers at the station, as was done at four Ukrainian stations, including the Zaporizhzhya station, which was seized by Russian forces at the beginning of the invasion.
