Zelenskyy meets with President Peña of Paraguay

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of Paraguay Santiago Peña in New York. The leaders discussed security challenges and the results of the first Peace Summit.

In particular, Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the situation on the battlefield and the results of the first Peace Summit, which took place in June 2024. The President noted that 11 Latin American countries had signed the joint communiqué, and Ukraine wanted Paraguay to join the document.

“You could not come to our first, inaugural Summit, but the Joint Communiqué is open for signing. You know that 11 Latin American countries have joined the inaugural Summit, and, of course, we really want Paraguay to join the communiqué as well,” the Ukrainian President said.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude to Paraguay for supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. In his post on Telegram, the President emphasized that support from Latin American countries is important.

“Ukraine wants to end this war and restore a just peace as soon as possible, and the support of Latin American countries is important to us,” he wrote.

In addition, the parties discussed regional and global security challenges, prospects for trade and economic cooperation and exchange of experience in mining and agriculture, and instructed the teams to explore the most promising areas for cooperation.
