Sikorsky at the UN compares Putin's regime to Hitler's Germany

Sep 25, 2024

Russia is committing a crime of genocide by abducting children in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has said. He noted that this is no different from what the German Nazis did.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Sikorski's statement to the UN Security Council, as quoted by Ukrinform.

The Polish minister refuted several of the usual false statements by Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzi, in particular his claim that Russia allegedly does not bomb civilian targets in Ukraine.

“This is the second lie,” Sikorsky said. He spoke about his recent trip to Lviv, where a Russian missile hit a residential building, killing children.

In addition, he recalled, Moscow kidnaps children in Ukraine and takes them to Russia to make them Russians, where they are “brainwashed to lose their memories and national identity.”

The Polish representative reminded that the UN recognizes these actions as a war crime, and the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in October 2022.

“How is what you are doing to abducted Ukrainian children different from what the German Nazis did to your children and ours?” the minister asked in Nebenz, pointing out that ”abductions of children in other countries are tantamount to genocide, as the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe recently confirmed.”

“This is a disgrace to Russia that will not be forgiven or forgotten,” Sikorsky said.

He also refuted another lie by the Russian ambassador that the USSR allegedly did not cooperate with the Nazis during the invasion of Poland in 1939.
