According to the newspaper's sources, the allies are discussing the possibility of contacting Putin just before the G20 meeting in Brazil, as there are no signs that the Kremlin plans to retreat in the war with Ukraine.

Bloomberg's source also said that Ukraine's allies in the West are trying to lower expectations for the victory plan that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is presenting in the United States. They believe that it will not bring a “breakthrough” in the war with Russia.

In particular, according to an interlocutor familiar with Zelenskyy's conversations with foreign leaders, the Ukrainian president's victory plan contained “no real surprises and does not change the situation dramatically.” Another official called the plan a “wish list.”

One ally believes that the time has come for a new round of talks with Putin. According to the two officials, Zelenskyy or one of the partners could establish contact with the Russian dictator.

Bloomberg also notes that U.S. officials are trying to lower expectations for approval of Kyiv's request to use U.S. long-range missiles to strike targets inside Russian territory.
