Two and a half years after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the majority of Germans - 57% - still support military support for the country under attack.
This is evidenced by a survey by the Verian Institute on German foreign policy, published on Tuesday by the Körber Foundation in Hamburg, reports Yevropeiska Pravda with reference to ntv.
Despite the fact that the majority of Germans continue to support the provision of military assistance to Ukraine, this share has decreased compared to the previous year, when it was 66%.
Support is particularly low in eastern Germany, where only 40% support continued military support.
47% of respondents believe that Ukraine should defend itself until all the territory occupied by Russia is regained. 43%, on the other hand, believe that Ukraine should cede part of its territory to Russia to end the war.
In eastern Germany, 52% believe that Ukraine should cede territory, while in the west the number is 40%.
In general, the share of Germans who want Germany to be more actively involved in international crises has increased to 46%, the highest figure since the beginning of the series of foreign policy surveys. At the same time, 71% want to increase diplomatic activity. 15% are in favor of increased financial spending, and only 10% are in favor of increased German military intervention.
The Verian sociological institute, commissioned by the Körber Foundation, surveyed 1,000 German voters aged 18 and older about their views on foreign policy.
