Moscow and Minsk have finally agreed to move nuclear weapons to the territory of Belarus. This threatens both Europe and Ukraine.

Oleksandr Musienko, a military expert and head of the Center for Military and Legal Studies, told Channel 24 about this. According to him, the transfer of nuclear weapons to Belarus is somewhat more of a threat to Europe than to Ukraine.

In recent years, Russia has repeatedly practiced nuclear strikes during the so-called Zapad exercises in Belarus. According to some reports, it was Poland, some Scandinavian countries, and possibly Germany.

They practiced this in exercises. There was no information about the use against Ukraine. But the situation has changed since then. Therefore, we cannot dismiss the risks,

- Musienko said.

How should NATO respond to this threat?

According to Musienko, this time it is necessary to go beyond political statements and various condemnations. Two clear steps should be taken to strengthen the Alliance's position.

First of all, we need to work on forming a missile shield. In particular, this involves transferring a significant number of air and missile defense systems to Ukraine. This will help ensure that attacks are repelled if missiles are attempted to be launched through Ukraine.

Poland could continue to insist that U.S. nuclear weapons be based in Poland and managed by the United States. This would be an excellent element of deterrence. It is also necessary to deploy THAAD systems, which are capable of intercepting ballistic targets at an altitude of more than 50 kilometers,

- Musienko emphasized.
