Czech President Petr Pavel praised the fact that the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine, which has been resisting full-scale Russian aggression for more than two years, has gained momentum.

He said this during a visit to the city of Zlin in the southeast of the Czech Republic on 16 April, ČTK reports.

Commenting on the progress of the purchase of artillery shells for Ukraine outside Europe, Pavel said that work on finding money and partners for them continues.

"I think this is a reflection of the fact that everyone is aware of a certain debt in terms of the promised support for Ukraine, where the European Union promised to deliver a million units by March this year. Unfortunately, this did not happen," he said.

"If we don't want Ukraine to fall, which is certainly not in our interest, then it is good that initiatives like ours are being created to try to get ammunition and necessary equipment for Ukraine where possible," the Czech president added.
