More than half of Moldovans support EU accession in referendum

Apr 16, 2024

The majority of Moldovans would vote in favor of joining the European Union if the issue were put to a referendum, with this option proving more popular than joining the Russian-controlled Eurasian Union.

This is evidenced by a survey conducted by CBS Research and commissioned by the WatchDog.MD initiative, the IPN news agency reports.

In the event of a referendum on accession to the European Union, more than 56% of respondents would vote in favor, and 25% would vote against. The rest are undecided or say they will not participate.

In a similar referendum, 35% of respondents would vote in favor of joining the Eurasian Union, while 47.5% would vote against it.

Given a choice between the EU and the Eurasian Union, 54% of Moldovans would choose the EU and only 25% would choose the Eurasian Union.
