Ukraine to request convening of NATO-Ukraine Council

Apr 16, 2024

Ukraine will make a request to the North Atlantic Alliance to convene a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council to discuss the issue of protecting Ukrainian skies.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening address on 16 April, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

The Head of State once again recalled the discussions on how the United States and other Western allies joined in repelling Iran's attack on Israel with missiles and drones.

"We've heard a lot over the past two days. About different conflicts - here in Europe and in the Middle East - different levels of threats, different airspace, although the Shahids and ballistics are the same. About different threats of escalation," Zelenskyy listed.

He stressed that in all cases, we are talking about equally valuable human lives, which must be "protected at the same level from terror".

"Ukraine will request a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council to discuss the protection of the sky, the supply of air defense systems, relevant systems, and missiles," the president announced, without elaborating.
