The war in Ukraine should not become a frozen conflict

"Freezing" the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine is unacceptable, as it will become a breeding ground for future conflicts.

This was stated at a joint press conference in Tallinn by the leaders of Germany and the Baltic states, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Without a doubt, this should not become a frozen conflict. If Russia thinks that it can get away with seizing land in Ukraine, this will not happen. That is why we support Ukraine as long as necessary. Russia must withdraw its troops. This is the basis for peace," said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, fully agreed with him.

"Of course, it is up to Ukraine to decide when this war will end and when it can enter into negotiations. But, as Olaf Scholz has just said, a frozen conflict will only be a breeding ground for future conflicts. And we cannot allow that to happen. That is why we have to end the gray areas in Europe, including Ukraine," the Estonian Prime Minister said.

For his part, Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karinš emphasized that the choice of the format of the negotiations is definitely up to Ukraine. "But, obviously, we should start with the fact that for this we need to completely liberate Ukraine," he said, expressing his belief that the starting point for a settlement should be the peace initiatives presented by Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Ukrainian issue was one of the main topics during the meeting between the leaders of Germany and the Baltic states, who emphasized their readiness to support Ukraine until victory.
