Britain urges the EU not to impose restrictions on trade with Ukraine

The UK urged the European Union not to impose restrictions on trade with Ukraine. In particular, during the war with Russia.

This was stated by British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps on X (Twitter).

"The UK has done the right thing by extending our tariff-free, quota-free imports from Ukraine for most goods for another 5 years. The UK calls on Europe to follow suit to defend freedom and democracy against the invasion of sovereign Ukraine by dictatorial Putin," he said.

It is worth noting that the day before, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that the European Parliament and the European Council had previously agreed to extend the import of Ukrainian goods without duties and quotas until June 2025. The agreements are expected to be adopted in April.

Thus, the temporary suspension of import duties and quotas on exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU will be extended for another year, until June 5, 2025, to support Ukraine in the face of ongoing Russian aggression.

Earlier, Ukrainian officials said that Ukraine is ready to adopt new restrictions on its trade with the EU to defuse a sharp political dispute with Poland, but also calls on the bloc to ban imports of Russian grain.
