Mar 27, 2024

At a meeting in Paris on 27 March, the Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe recommended that Kosovo be invited to join the organization, which opens the way to a vote on the relevant decision at the PACE session.

This was reported by the PACE press service, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

In support of the advisory opinion of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Kosovo's membership, 31 members of the political committee voted in favor, four voted against (two representatives of Serbia and one each of Montenegro and North Macedonia), and one representative of Greece abstained.

The next step in the procedure will be to put the issue to a vote at the April PACE session. The actual vote is expected to take place on 18 April, after which the issue will be referred to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe requires the votes of two-thirds of the Committee's members.
