Mar 27, 2024

The third largest group of the European Parliament, Renew Europe, has invited the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to take part in its summits and members of the Servant of the People party to partially join the group's work.

Renew Europe President Valérie Ayet said this at a briefing on 27 March after a meeting with Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk in Kyiv, Reuters reports.

Renew Europe invites MPs from the Servant of the People to participate in the group's parliamentary meetings, and Zelenskyy to join the summits of the leaders of its member states: France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Estonia, Slovenia, and Bulgaria.

"We believe that the Servant of the People will become even closer to our parliament and the Renew family," President Valerie Ayrault said after meeting Stefanchuk in Kyiv.

EU officials quoted by Reuters said the initiative by the European Parliament group was a way to engage with Ukraine before more concrete steps can be taken in the EU accession process.

"We should not wait for official observer status to start working together in earnest," Aie added.
