Mar 26, 2024

On Monday, March 25, Donald Trump won a motion to suspend a court ruling in a civil fraud case that required the politician to post a $175 million bail within 10 days. This prohibits the New York state authorities from seizing his assets.

The decision of the mid-level court of appeals postponed the execution of the court decision in the case, which found that Trump overstated his wealth to mislead investors and creditors.

At the same time, the decision does not indicate how the appellate court may ultimately rule or consider the merits of the case. It could take up to a year or more for the judges to rule on the matter.

"I have the utmost respect for the appellate court's decision and I will very quickly put up $175 million in cash or bonds or securities or whatever," Trump told reporters at the courthouse.

At the same time, the Office of New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is leading the civil case, noted that Trump "still faces liability for his staggering fraud."

Monday was the deadline for a ruling on the $454 million that Trump is unable to pay. Then James could ask the court to begin seizing the politician's assets, including real estate - 40 Wall Street in Manhattan.
