International fund to be created to provide Ukraine with F-16 aircraft

In order to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16s, provide proper infrastructure, and transfer the aircraft themselves, it is important to attract material and financial resources not only from the United States but also from other countries.

This was stated by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during the final press conference after Ramstein 12, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"In terms of the cost of the F-16, it is not a surprise to anyone that it will be expensive," the Pentagon chief stated.

In this context, he noted that it is not only the cost of the aircraft, but also their maintenance, deployment of the entire infrastructure, and pilot training. Therefore, according to Austin, the possibilities of joint financing of this project are being discussed, in particular, by establishing a fund "so that other countries can contribute to the joint effort."

"It has to be an international effort," Austin added.

In addition, he expressed hope that the US Congress would support funding for the F-16 deployment initiative in Ukraine, as it has supported previous defense assistance for Ukrainian forces.
